CareCube:

Low-cost ISOLATION UNITS FOR RAPIDLY EVOLVING INFECTIOUS DISEASES

  • Only 2% to 4% of all hospital rooms and 0% of senior nursing homes in the U.S. are equipped with airborne infection isolation rooms (AIIRs)

  • Temporary, low-cost, in-room, negative pressure tents allow hospitals to scale their response to infectious disease events

  • We are 6 years ahead of competitors on designing A temporary AIIR and began pilot production for demo units in 2020

Rapid prototyping and evaluation in partnership with the CDC and the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Infectious Disease Division.

The Carecube is under review for FDA Emergency Use Authorization during the COVID-19 public health emergency. It is not FDA cleared or approved and is not currently commercially available in the U.S

CareCube Features

  • Clear-view canopy, RF-welded seams, double lap hook& loop allow replacement of glove and HugSuit components.

  • Donning and doffing antechambers allow medical staff to safely enter the isolated negative-pressure patient area.

  • External steel frame and disposable tent with integrated glove walls and Hug Suit for full patient access.

  • Air handling is included and is designed to meet the 15 air exchanges per hour (ACH) CDC guidelines for surgical procedures and delivery rooms. The HEPA and MERV intake filters are welded directly to the tent canopy for risk mitigation related to tampering and installation errors.

  • The compact (33” x 49” x 40”) shipping/storage size allows even small facilities to stockpile units as part of their future preparedness plan.

  • When deployed, the 10’ x 10’ x7’ tent will fit into most single-patient hospital rooms and multiple units can be set up in larger indoor spaces.

  • Affordability is critical for deploying a high number of isolation units including rural communities, extreme locations, and LMIC countries.

HUGSUIT allows full physical contact with the patient and access to all areas of the tent. The Hug Suit is ventilated, has a 360° clear screen hood and integrated gloves.

AIR HANDLING is included with each tent. A HEPA filter and two MERV 8 intake filters are welded to the tent. Negative pressure and air exchange rates are designed to meet the highest CDC operating room requirements.

LEAN-IN GLOVE WINDOWS provide health care staff a vertical view of the patient. Retention loops keep the window flush when not in use. Gloves can be layered over with sterile surgical gloves and glove subcomponent can be replaced as needed.
